When it comes to applying for your first grad roles, a well-crafted resume can make or break your chances of landing an interview. Here are Lavania from Here Write Now for Dental's top three tips to make sure your resume stands out from the crowd.
Keep your resume concise and relevant, an employer generally doesn’t want to see any more than two pages of information. As a new graduate, we don’t expect you to come packed with experience. Rather, focus on highlighting any relevant skills and accomplishments that would interest any hiring team. Include your education, any clinical experience, relevant certifications, and any other trainings you may have completed that would make you a good asset to any team. Remember, dental professionals are generally pretty time poor, so prioritising information is key!
Attention to detail is paramount, ALWAYS have a trusted friend or family member proofread your resume. Dental professionals are required to have a high level of attention to detail, and any spelling mistakes or grammatical errors may suggest that you don’t have the level of precision required for the job. A well-presented resume not only demonstrates a certain level of professionalism but makes it easy for any potential employer to quickly read and comprehend your document.
List three references in your resume. The easier you make the hiring experience for a potential employer, the fonder they will review your application. If your references are easily accessible, it can expedite the hiring process which is looked upon favourably by employers. Make sure to give advanced notice to each of your references so they are willing and prepared to vouch for you on your behalf. We’ve found some employers want to speak to a mix of both professional and personal references, so make sure to include a mix.
